2019: Week 40

This week is Tableau Conference week. A major conference happened last week and they need some Data help! Sudzilla, the annual conference for all things soap, was attended by our very own Chin & Beard Suds Co. A survey was sent to all participants and the results are in but the structure of the data isn't ideal for the analysis we want to do.


Summarising survey responses to understand the overall event is challenge. One metric that often gets used is Net Promoter Score (NPS). This takes the questions "On a Scale of 0-10, would you recommend [Enter Event / Product] to friends and family?" and converts it in to a percentage score. The reason why NPS is better than traditional satisfaction scores is the customers who have poor experiences will do damage to your brand (detractors) rather than just looking at those who are promoting your brand (promoters). 

Through research, Promoters were found to be those who gave scores of 9 or 10. Detractors were a large range of 0-6. Scores of 7-8 are ignored from the overall calculation but are factored in to the number of responses. 

The calculation is:
(Promoters - Detractors)
                ____________________     x 100

Requirements

  • Input data
  • Work out the Net Promoter Score for Sudzilla using "On a scale of 0-10, how would you rate Sudzilla?"
  • Split the 'What three words...' field in to individual words and use a grouping technique to clean these words 
    • ***The technique used may change row count - try to get close***
  • Change food rating fields to 1-5 score (bad to good) and average the value. Rename this to Food Rating Score.
  • Form an average score for the keynotes. Rename this to 'Keynote Rating Score'
  • Output the data

  • 4 Columns
    • NPS Score
    • Total Respondents
    • Promoter
    • Detractor
  • 1 Row (2 Rows including headers)

2. Detailed Output
  • 8 columns
    • Timestamp
    • On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate Sudzilla?
    • ...why?
    • What three words would you use to describe Sudzilla?
    • Avg Keynote Rating Score
    • Avg Food Rating Score
    • What was your favourite giveaway?
    • What was your favourite 'Soapbox'?
  • 116 rows (117 rows including headers)

2023: Week 2 - International Bank Account Numbers

Challenge By: Jenny Martin For week 2 of our beginner month, Data Source Bank has a requirement to construct International Bank Account Numbers (IBANs), even for Transactions taking place in the UK. We have all the information in separate fields, we just need to put it altogether in the following order: Inputs A list of the transactions, with information about the receiving bank account  A lookup table for the SWIFT Bank Codes  Requirements Input the data In the Transactions table, there is a Sort Code field which contains dashes. How to...Handle Free Text

Free isn't always a good thing. In data, Free text is the example to state when proving that statements correct. However, lots of benefit can be gained from understanding data that has been entered in Free Text fields. What do we mean by Free Text? Free Text is the string based data that comes from allowing people to type answers in to systems and forms. The resulting data is normally stored within one column, with one answer per cell. As Free Text means the answer could be anything, this is what you get - absolutely anything. From expletives to slang, the words you will find in the data may be a challenge to interpret but the text is the closest way to collect the voice of your customer / employee. The Free Text field is likely to contain long, rambling sentences that can simply be analysed. If you count these fields, you are likely to have one of each entry each.
